The motor vehicle road
Definition of the motor vehicle road
The motor vehicle road is a public road whose start is indicated by sign F9 and end by sign F11. Traffic is reserved for motor vehicles and their trailers.
Prohibited users
Access is prohibited for pedestrians, cyclists, moped riders, quad riders, animal handlers, drivers towing another vehicle, agricultural vehicles and fairground convoys.
Prohibitions on the road
It is forbidden to make a U-turn, reverse, drive the wrong way, stop or park (except in parking areas), use cross-connections or tow a vehicle.
Speed limits
No minimum speed. The maximums are: 50 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h outside built-up areas in Wallonia, 70 km/h outside built-up areas in Brussels and Flanders, 120 km/h outside built-up areas on a dual carriageway with a physical separator.
The motor vehicle road therefore constitutes an intermediate road type between the ordinary road and the motorway, with its own traffic rules. It is essential to be thoroughly familiar with these specific rules in order to drive safely and legally.
